Research Project Assignment Topic Selection

Assignment Description: As a culminating project for this first part of Anatomy and Physiology, you will research a disease related to any aspect of the systems taught in class (cardiovascular, immune, digestive, respiratory, urinary or reproductive).  Your project will be a slideshow PowerPoint format.

Unit 5 Course Project & Presentation

The objective of this project is to create a presentation and brochure that demonstrates your mastery of the concepts covered in Human Anatomy and Physiology I. Your presentation and brochure should be developed from the perspective of a Health Care Provider. During your presentation your team must articulate your information using correct medical terminology. Each member must contribute to both the presentation and brochure.

Scenario:

You have just been hired as an RN at INOVA Hospital. One of your first tasks is to hold an educational forum for the community. The audience is going to be comprised of people from various ages, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. They have a rather short attention span so your talk must be informative and interesting. You must include them in your presentation by asking rhetorical questions that indicate whether or not they understand your topic. Remember, you are the expert!

The directions and rubric for your Course Project and Presentation are below:

Directions:

  1. In groups, identify a disease from one of the 5 Organ Systems (Integument, Muscle, Bone, Neurological and Endocrine) that we covered in Human Anatomy and Physiology I and discuss what systems this disease affects.
  2. Prepare an oral presentation (approximately 10 -15 minutes for the group). using the white board, short video clips (inserted into the presentation) and PowerPoint. (You must have a reference page at the end of the PowerPoint in APA style.)
  3. Prepare an educational brochure that covers this disease (the brochure must be in APA format and include citations and references).
  4. The brochure and presentation must include what system(s) the diseases affect, how the diseases are diagnosed and what treatments are available (if any). Remember to be informative and creative!!!
