The video I chose is “ Airfreight: the astonishing capacity of one of the world’s most modern cargo terminals.” The video shows The New Cool Nordic Cargo Hub. Air cargo is portrayed as progress in the transport industry with its effectiveness in transporting different commodities such as perishable goods and just-in-time products. Its features are explored by the handling of cargo undertaken by specialized equipment from airport installations to the loading units, transport modes, and the availability of planned human resources supply, which results to profits from improved and sustained developments found in the cargo terminal (Finnair (Director), 2017). The events are vivid in the terminal’s capacity in terms of space categorized depending on the type of commodity, sustainability, a coordinated environment for improved efficiency quality and visibility, and digitalized supported operations.
The things that I found interesting from the video is that extensive use of robotics and automation of warehouse services results in real-time responses and creates a proactive production planning procedure. Also, there is a specialty in cargo handling through digitalized forklifting control that directs forklifts to the necessary destination (Finnair (Director), 2017). Additionally, there is shipment regulation as a result of computerized operations from the intelligent services from specialties in Cargo Control Centre (CCC). Digitalized sustainability is expressed in the structural appearance of the terminal house with its installation of 1200 solar panels (Finnair Cargo, 2020), Unit Load Device (ULD) set to function in dark areas that are isolated for cooler temperatures particular for perishable goods. The ability to conserve energy and optimizes the terminal’s operations which leads to improved productivity and improved competitiveness and customer satisfaction. (Yi-Chung Hu., 2018)
I agree, there will be a benefit to the air cargo industry in terms of domestic and international economic development through the simplified and technological expertise handling process of freight; efficiency in managing the cargo’s environment and the assortment of cargo through a computerized system that saves time and problem-solving in areas requiring improvement. E-freight system, as part of digitalization in the air cargo industry being introduced will be a mind-boggling process that defines improved profit margins and increasingly fierce competition, which is suitable for consumer satisfaction.
