VCOM 1850: TRENDS PAST, PRESENT + FUTURE TREND BLOG (150 Points; 75 Points Per Post)

OBJECTIVE

Forecasters are constantly on the lookout for new and innovative ideas, great design and items that inspire, as well as monitoring society to detect changes in consumer behavior and attitudes that will impact lifestyle.

This quarter, you’ll each need to contribute two posts to the Trends class blog. The purpose of these writing assignments is to practice:

  • Honing your observation and research skills
  • Generating original written work.

PROJECT BRIEF

Write an analysis of the trend you’ve selected, using the 5 Ws for each factual piece of evidence you include:

  • WHAT it is
  • WHO it is by
  • WHEN and WHERE it was made
  • WHY it is relevant to the trend you’re discussing

Please also think about what might be influencing the trend and how you think it might evolve.

For each post, also include a minimum of three sourced photographs that illustrate your trend topic. 

Give your post a title – something clever and attention grabbing, that conveys the trend topic you’ve selected.

NOTE:  Be sure to label each post with your full name and post title.  Since this blog is shared with other FIDM Trends classes, please also tag each post with your instructor’s name (Hallman).

CITING YOUR SOURCES

At the end of your post, provide a Works Cited list, MLA formatted (please review “How to Cite Your Sources” on Resources page).  Include all the sources you consulted (even those you didn’t directly quote).  A minimum of five sources, including ones for your images*, are required for each post. MLA stands for Modern Language Association.

*When citing your images, list what each one depicts (caption) and who the artwork/product/design/photograph is by, when and where it was created, and provide a link or information about the source.

(Please Note:  Google Images, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc. are never acceptable source citations.  A source should never end with, jpg or png)

HOW TO SUBMIT

Your post must be published on the Trends course WordPress blog (accessed through the class Canvas menu) before start of class, the week due. If you are having difficulty accessing the Trend blog contact eLearning support at elearning@us.fidm.edu as well as let me know at thallman@fidm.edu Also bring a hard copy to class with our standard cover page on the date due.  

*Also bring a printed copy of you post to our next class and make sure it has our standard class formatted cover page.
