“The supreme Being is without beginning. For, if a thing has a beginning, it begins from another, or begins from itself, or begins from nothing. But it cannot be a truly supreme Being is it begins from another for it would then be dependent upon that other thing. And it cannot be that it begins from nothing, since nothing, being nothing at all, lacks any power to generate. Moreover, the supreme Being cannot begin from itself. For whatever begins from something cannot be the very same thing as that thing from which it begins. Seeing then, that it has a beginning neither from another, nor from itself, nor from nothing, assurediquly it has no beginning at all.”
