Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis
FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis) is used in many aspects
of the engineering design process. Discuss its applicability to the Reliability
Centred Maintenance (RCM) methodology and the SEVEN (7) critical questions
that need to be deliberated in this RCM analysis.
(b) Assess the differences between two parameters, Mean Time Between Failure
(MTBF) and Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) defined for an aircraft component,
and how they can be derived. Presenting both parameters in the same conditional
probability of failure curve, evaluate the applicability of each parameter in
different phases of the component’s life cycle.
(c) Using an appropriate illustration, assess how the maintenance cost per unit hour
of an aircraft mechanical component may change over its life-cycle
