GHSN-210 Final Exam

]GHSN-210-

   Final Exam

This semester we have read and discussed some topics that had us thinking deep and hard. As African Americans, we have been touched as we read the text and as a people, we also have been touched and hurt by the things blacks had to endure during slavery. As the first Africans were brought to the American shores in the Seventeenth century, black people have been a constant and distinct presence in America. During the prolonged course of the Atlantic slave trade. Africans were sold into servitude in what became the United States. Yet in spite of the horrors of slavery, the indignity of Jim Crow, and the violence and discrimination inflicted, most African Americans have not rejected America.

  1. John Hawkins, an English naval commander, establishes Great Britain as a leader in the trade slave. The ‘Triangle Trade” made Hawkins and other slave traders huge profits hauling human cargo from Africa to the Americas. The other sides of the triangle were shipping sugar, tobacco, and cotton to Europe, and finished goods such as textiles to Africa.  What effect did the triangle trade have on African and African Americans? How is the trade slave in Africa differ from the Atlantic slave trade?

  1. Black people struggled against a rising of white supremacy in the late nineteenth century.  White southerners and most white northerners had been convinced that as a race they are superior to black people intellectually and culturally. The federal government established and enforced – although unevenly- the rights of all citizens to enjoy equal protection of the law and due process of law.  However, it seems as though white supremacy is resurging again. What is the reason for the resurgence of white supremacy in these United States of America today? Do you think Americans will support white supremacy and how will white supremacy affect the black race?
