PICOT question
For this assignment, you will create a clinical guiding question know as a PICOT question. The PICOT question
must be relevant to a nursing practice problem. To support your PICOT question, identify six supporting peerrevised research articles, as indicated below. The PICOT question and six peer-reviewed research articles you
choose will be utilized for subsequent assignments.
Use the “Literature Evaluation Table” to complete this assignment.
Select a nursing practice problem of interest to use as the focus of your research. Start with the patient
population and identify a clinical problem or issue that arises from the patient population. In 275 words, provide
a summary of the clinical issue.
Following the PICOT format, write a PICOT question in your selected nursing practice problem area of interest.
The PICOT question should be applicable to your proposed capstone project (the project students must
complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).
The PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project.
Conduct a literature search to locate six research articles focused on your selected nursing practice problem of
interest. This literature search should include THREE QUANTITATIVE and THREE QUALITATIVE peerreviewed research articles to support your nursing practice problem.

PICOT Question
In almost all health care contexts, nurses meet with families during their work time. The encounters influence the quality of a health provider’s attitude towards families and the significance of including the relatives to the patient in nursing care. To search for relevant evidence of the outcome, consider the below PICOT questions.
PICOT Population- The family members taking care of their patients who are in the ICU
Intervention- multidisciplinary ICU rounds made by nurses concerning the patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
Comparison- The nurse’s role is to care for the patient in the absence of family members during the multidisciplinary rounds.
Outcome- Improved Patient Satisfaction scores. The scores that the family members give when they are asked about their satisfaction with the health facility.

Significance of the Problem in Nursing
Patient satisfaction involves giving them a good experience even in times that look challenging to them. Therefore, as a way of improving this experience, nurses conduct family-centered care as a way of honoring patients and family and improving decision making. Family presence on rounds in ICU helps nurses initiate interactions with the members of patient’s families that are interactive.
Taking families as conventional partners is significant because it allows for nurses to hold discussions about things like family structure and care planning. According to Davidson et al. (2013), viewing families as a burden gives the opinion that they are undesirable, thus causing the family members to feel that the type of care offered is not right for their patient.
Cypress (2012) denotes that families of critically ill patients in the ICU have needs such as support, reassurance, and the need to stay near their sick members. Thus, to fulfill this, nurses taking them on rounds help improve their satisfaction and, eventually, good patient scores.
To conclude, the PICOT question is set to result in improved patient scores through the intervention of multidisciplinary rounds that include family members of the patient in the ICU during their stay in the hospital. Including family improves nurses’ attitudes towards members of the patient’s family while making sure their needs are addressed.
