Multivariate Data Analysis Techniques

Seminar in Applied Multivariate Data Analysis Techniques
Data Exercise 7
You are a psychologist at the Penn State University. Recently, it was observed that many Penn
State football players were missing the field goals. Penn State athletics department contacted you
to find out what factors predict whether or not a player will score a field goal. You examined
effect of degree of worry of player before field goal and previous percentage of scoring field
goals on their probability of scoring or not scoring a field goal. You collected data from 75
players. Select the best model with appropriate combination of independent variables (main
effects or interaction of main effects), which significantly predicts whether or not a player will
score a field goal. Determine which independent variables or interaction of independent variables
are significant predictors of whether or not a player will score a field goal. Conduct the
appropriate statistical test at a = .05. The data from the study are available in the attached AEE
597 Data Exercise 7.sav file.
Note: Please conduct appropriate analysis using SPSS. In the write-up, please provide
descriptive statistics in addition to discussion about statistical assumptions for the particular
statistical procedure that you will use. Be sure to report and interpret the appropriate statistical
measures that ascertain good fit of overall model and predictors, odds ratio, and classification
table. Please also provide SPSS syntax and SPSS output from your analysis.
Data Exercise 8
You are a researcher at the Penn State University with a research focus on youth development.
Recently, Penn State Extension, a research outreach unit of the Penn State College of Agricultural
Sciences, contacted you to conduct an analysis on their collected data on multiple variables to
determine whether the data capture one youth development latent construct or multiple constructs.
One year after participation in a youth development program (i.e., 4-H), Penn State Extension
collected data from 145 youths on 15 variables that may capture a bigger latent construct, i.e.,
youth development. Please conduct an appropriate descriptive exploratory analysis to determine
whether collected data from 15 variables contribute to one (i.e., youth development) or multiple
latent variables/constructs. In the analysis please use an appropriate extraction model and do
rotation of data if needed. Conduct the appropriate statistical test at a =
.05. The data from the study are available in the attached AEE 597 Data Exercise 8.sav file.
Note: Please conduct appropriate analysis using SPSS. Please write the results as per “writing
results” slide in the factor analysis slide set that was covered on 04/14/20. In addition to
information provided on the results slide, please interpret the factor loadings for most significant
variables.
