Teaching Adults Learning Experience Plan and Analysis
Teaching Adults Learning Experience Plan and Analysis
Objectives and Alignment:
- Students will design and develop a learning experience for adult learners.
- Students will develop an implementation plan for teaching in the classroom.
- Students will develop an assessment plan for the learning experience.
This assignment objective aligns with Course Objectives A, B, C, and D.
Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is for you to take what you have learned about adult learners, adult educators, learners, design, learning, and teaching and apply it. So, while we are unable to conduct our teaching demonstrations as planned, we will prepare for them as though we were doing them. The Instructional Plan/Storyboard was the first phase of this and meant to give you a bit of a head start on this assignment.
Assignment:
This assignment will assess your ability to prepare for and reflect on the potential for actually teaching adults in a classroom environment. Think of this as one class of at least 1 hour on your selected topic area.
Lesson Plan:
For the purposes of the final project, I would like to see you complete the Lesson Plan template thoroughly. This is a tool and much different than the kind of plan that you would find in K-12. This is a starting point. Please feel free to add to it and change it as much as you would like as long as those concepts on there are still discussed thoroughly. At the end of the Lesson Plan, I did add what appendices I would like to see attached which will be discussed in turn below.
Activities:
I would like to see you attach worksheets, video links, readings (links) or statements about the readings included for your class. Make sure to contextualize the activities so that I am able to see how they fit into your lesson plan. The formatting is up to you as long as it is organized and clear.
Assessments:
I would like to see you attach your assessments for your class. If it is a quiz, I would like to see the quiz and answer key. If it is an assignment, I would like to see the prompt, etc. Again, make sure to contextualize the activities so I am to see how they fit into your lesson plan. The formatting is up to you as long as it is organized and clear.
Tentative Schedule:
I would like to see you attach a schedule of how you will move the instruction through the hour. How long will be spent on each aspect? For example, we may spend 10 minutes discussion the previous night’s reading, before moving on to a 15 minute quiz. This can be in any format as long as it is organized and clear.
Teaching Evaluation:
I would like to see you create a survey to provide for your learners on the learning experience and your teaching. This should very clearly reference what it means to be an effective adult educator and create adult learning experiences.
Teaching Reflection:
To accomplish this, you will need to discuss the process of creating the learning experience (class). What have you learned about teaching adults, not only in this assignment, but just in this course in general? What does this tell you about what it means to be an effective adult educator? What do you think you will particularly excel at? What do you think you will struggle with as an adult educator and how would you address those weaknesses? If you had to sum up what it means to teach adults in one sentence, what would it be? Why? Add any additional information that you would like. Connect your reflection to our readings or outside scholarly or trade publications; please be sure to do so using APA Style Manual, 6th Edition. Use one-inch margins, double-spaced, and Times New Roman font, 12-point. Be sure to use section headings within your paper. This will help break up the paper. Let me know if you have any questions.
The assignment deliverable should include the following:
- Lesson Plan
- Instructional Plan/Storyboard (previously submitted, but please include again)
- Activities
- Assessments
- Tentative Schedule
- Teaching Evaluation
- Teaching Reflection
- Reference Page
Deliverable:
