LEAD 622 Research Design

Final Proposal

Due: May 12th Midnight

Description: Create a methods section outline for an independent quantitative research project.

This assignment addresses the following course learning objectives:

Evaluate the validity of quantitative studies (internal, external, construct, conclusion);

Apply key concepts associated with research methods; and

Select appropriate research methods and statistics needed to conduct independent research.

Format:

Similar to the methods section of a research proposal, this proposal should be double-spaced with headers to differentiate between key sections. Use APA citing.

Submit your assignment on Blackboard (a Chalk & Wire link will be provided).

Create an outline for a quantitative methods research proposal (on a topic of your choice) by addressing each of the following:

Provide an introduction that explains the problem being investigated.

Provide a literature review section. (You do not need an extensive literature review (5 to 10 quality references may be sufficient). Your objective is to frame your research question with peer-reviewed sources to strengthen your argument.) [Session One]

State your research question. (This is sometimes embedded in the introduction.) [Session One]

State the hypothesis(es) related to your research question. (This is sometimes stated at the end of a literature review or at the beginning of a methods section.) [Session One]

Create a conceptual model (figure) that aligns with your research question and hypothesis. Include a box identifying control variables if relevant. [Session One]

Provide a detailed description of each of the variables/measures in your study (independent, dependent and if relevant a moderator and mediator). If existing scales are used for any of the variables, cite the supporting psychometric evidence regarding their validity/reliability. The specific questions/items may be attached as appendices if they are not directly embedded in the body of the methods section. Each variable needs to be defined separately so its operationalization is clearly explained. [Session Two]

Describe your sampling plan including population you plan to use and the minimum sample size you need to address statistical power. [Session Three and Session Five]

Describe the research design or procedures you will use to collect your data. If this is an experiment or quasi-experiment explain the procedures that will be used. [Session Four]

Identify the statistical technique(s) you will use to test the hypothesis(es) and explain why it is appropriate. [Session Five]

Identify the limitations of your proposed study in terms of its internal, external, construct, and conclusion validity. [Sessions Two through Five]
