Reflection Blog: Leadership Traits

Since I was young, I wanted was to be a good leader. I believe some leaders were born with good traits, but others possessed and learned great ones. Personal qualities are essential since they connect relationships among people in a social situation, influencing leadership. Communication is a major strength and skill since it helps build strong relationships with people and deliver the best leadership traits. This helps mark the beginning of a new leadership approach and can influence other people’s options and behaviors. In order to challenge daily activities and keep control over everything, I consider enhancing self-confidence. This is to help delegate, challenge standard approaches, and encourage other leaders to be innovative. Self-confidence will help stay productive, accomplish high goals, take risks, and deal immediately with conflicts and problems. Nevertheless, I instill self-confidence in others and approach new situations with an open mind (Bargau, 2015). The researcher has suggested that leaders must be self-confident to understand and recognize others’ moods and emotions.

I desire to ensure the responsibilities are done; thus, I am determined to preserve them in the face of obstacles. This will help improve health and eradicate poverty in our communities. Determination is accompanied by showing dominance and supporting other people’s projects for a better future. Stogdills has concluded that an important leadership trait is integrity since it adheres to a strong set of principles and takes responsibility. Society believes leaders are based on integrity and are worthy of their trust. Therefore integrity is a trait I consider enhancing since it is a quality of trustworthiness and honesty (Northouse, 2021). I successfully organized staff functions and counted money after our church bake sales. However, I have to detract from trusting people since leaders with a general disposition to trust others must know when it is real and diligence.

Sociability is another trait I will consider enhancing since it will help me be friendly, diplomatic, courteous, outgoing, and tactful (Nichols, (2016). To be sensitive to my follower’s needs and show concern, I have to improve my sociability. Nevertheless, social leaders are creative and have better interpersonal skills. I am a hardworking individual with experience and broad skills in digital and social media; thus, it will help improve sociability even in digital leading.

Integrity, self-confidence, sociability, and communication are among the traits I need to enhance problem-solving skills, competencies, planning, and technical skills (Katz, 2009). In case of conflict, traits such as self-confidence help cope with difficult organizational situations and performance. I recently completed leadership training, which has equipped me with skills to lead effectively and widened my thinking abilities to be innovative and creative. I believe career traits and experiences impact leaders’ competencies (Alward & Phelps, 2019). This is because they will enhance my intellectual ability and leadership motivation. The research findings are loaded with leadership traits that define the needed leaders, but some are quite rational. As a leader, I have to look at the successful leader in any company to see how particular traits and virtues vary from one leader to another.

However, I must discover my fully utilized, underutilized strengths and weaknesses to improve this leadership trait. The leadership process comprises followers, leaders, and situations requiring devoted qualities and deeper understanding. Therefore, I hope all discussed leadership traits will help improve my overall leadership effectiveness.
