TRAUMATOLOGY POWERPOINT ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
This Professional APA style narrated Traumatology Power Point Assignment will present
content from a specific focus on a narrow portion of the knowledge gained from this course. This
presentation builds upon the knowledge gained in the course and is a portion of the series of
assignments that began with the Traumatology Topic, Traumatology Outline, Traumatology
Annotated Outline, and will conclude with a Traumatology Paper on this same topic. This series
of assignments is contemplated to help prepare the learner for the dissertation requirements of
deepening a single topic of interest over a period of time and presenting the findings using more
than one modality. Since the dissertation proposal and dissertation final defense both require a
Power Point presentation, scholarly presentation on a topic of interest is a required skill for
doctoral learners.
In this PowerPoint presentation, learners will present on the topic and population of interest and
the feedback received from the assignments in the series (Traumatology Topic, Traumatology
Outline, and Traumatology Annotated Outline). The topic should be sufficiently narrowed and
focused on a specific population of interest. A scholarly approach to biblical integration is
required.
Instructions
Prepare a scholarly PowerPoint Presentation Assignment on this topic, intended for an
audience of emerging trauma counselors. Note: This presentation is intended for an audience of
emerging trauma counselors, so preparations for the discussion should not include lengthy
definitions of trauma or long excerpts from the DSM. Rather, this information should be focused
on emerging research on a topic in traumatology and focused on a particular population of
interest.
Each presentation should include:
A Table of Contents or presentation outline, showing the contents of the PowerPoint,
including the 5 main Sections, discussed below, as well as a demonstration of the
organization that will be used throughout the presentation.
Narration or Slide Notes
o The presentation should be narrated with audible narration; or
o The presentation should include the narration that could be read aloud to an
audience of emerging scholars to present the information.
The PowerPoint should contain the following 5 Sections from the Outline Assignment.
Additional details are required, as stated below.
o Traumatology topic. This portion of the presentation should give the scholarly
audience a clear picture of the current state of the literature on the topic and a
clear rationale for the need to study the topic.
Population, including relevance of studying the population of interest
with this topic. Number of estimated individuals in the population,
incidence rates of trauma or specific diagnosis or impact of the topic, and
other, relevant data to describe the population of interest in relation to the
topic should be presented in this section. Information regarding the
importance of studying the population of interest could include data
presenting the under-representation of the population in the data on the
topic, emerging research that demonstrates vulnerability in the population,
factors affecting sequalae, social justice issues, missions or global
humanitarian issues, treatment efficacy, and etc.
At least 3 scholarly journal articles should be used to support this section.
Articles or publications should be no more than 3 years since publication.
(Sources can include the CDC, WHO, or other government organization.
Note: activism sites are not considered scholarly sources). Other,
appropriate sources, such as course texts, may also be included in addition
to the 3 required scholarly journal articles.
Examples:
If the PowerPoint will be presented on an event, the Population
data should include the country or region and population of interest
as well as specific population data that has been found as relevant
to that group’s experience of the event. The data should present the
rationale for studying the population of interest and this particular
event.
If the PowerPoint is presented on a diagnosis, the data should the
incidence rates of the types or the frequency of diagnoses in a
specific population of interest. The presentation should include
scholarly information on the etiology of the diagnosis and any
specific presentations that are unique for members of the
population of interest. It is also appropriate to compare and
contrast diagnosis between 2 or more groups of individuals;
If the PowerPoint will be presented on a treatment, data should be
presented on efficacy of the treatment and populations the
treatment has been found to be efficacious with, why this treatment
should be considered with this population of interest or, if
applicable, why it has not been studied with this population thus
far.
The discussion of the topic along with the importance of studying this
topic in the population of interest should be clearly organized throughout
the presentation. Note: this section may be largely driven by a research
interest, a personal interest, an activism or advocacy reason, or because of
a professional interest of the learner. If this is the case, this can be
presented in a scholarly way, including scholarly support for why this
population should be researched.
At least 3 scholarly journal articles should be used to support this section.
Articles should be no more than 3 years since publication. Course texts
may be used in addition to these journal articles.
o Variables associated with the topic and population of interest. This section
will include the topic and population of interest compared to other populations or
unique variables that are present in the population of interest that may not be
present with other populations. At least 2 scholarly journal articles should be used
to support this section. Articles should be no more than 3 years since publication.
Examples:
If the PowerPoint will be presented on an event, the data presented
should discuss the risks related to long-term negative effects from
the event and a scholarly rationale describing the harm specific to
individuals in your population of interest or compared to other
populations who experience the event.
If the PowerPoint will be presented on a diagnosis, the
presentation should include scholarly information on the diagnosis
as well as risk factors or research findings regarding comorbid
diagnoses or other marginalizing factors individuals from your
population of interest with this diagnosis may face.
If the PowerPoint will be presented on a treatment, the data
should support the efficacy of the treatment with the population of
interest, the indications and contraindications for the treatment, and
any emerging research on the treatment with your population of
interest.
o Biblical Application. This section will include available Christian or biblical
thought on the topic. At least 3 scholarly journal articles should be used to support
this section. Articles should be no more than 3 years since publication. Bible
verses included should be presented with the Professional APA scholarly
audience in mind and with relevance clarified.
Examples
If the PowerPoint will be presented on an event, the presentation
should include a scholarly discussion about the spiritual or faith
concerns that are common among individuals in your population of
interest who experience this type of event.
If the PowerPoint will be presented on a diagnosis, the data
presented should include Christian counseling or biblical
scholarship that discusses this topic or a similar one that has been
studied with your population of interest or with a population that
could serve as a rationale for considering diagnosis topics for your
population of interest. Treatments, including evidence based or
Christian accommodative practices for treating this diagnosis,
could be included in this section.
If the PowerPoint will be presented on a treatment, a strong
discussion of the evidence base for the use of Christian
accommodative approaches to treatment with your population of
interest should be presented. A strong emphasis on faith based or
Christian counseling research should be evident with preference
given to journal articles with evidence to support the use of
spiritually accommodative practices. If there are scholarly sources
to support the use of the specific treatment being studied in a
Christian or spiritually accommodated way with your population of
interest, that research should be clearly identified in the
presentation.
o Section for future research on the topic. This section should information stating
future research that other scholarly sources have identified to be pursued on this
topic. At least 3 scholarly journal articles should be used to support this section.
Articles should be no more than 3 years since publication. Other relevant sources,
such as course texts, may be included in addition to the 3 scholarly journal
articles.
Examples:
If the PowerPoint will be presented on an event, discuss what
researchers are stating about what is still unknown about the issue
and what future researchers should focus on to better understand
the trauma experienced by individuals when they encounter this
event.
If the PowerPoint will be presented on a diagnosis, include
research regarding what researchers have yet to understand about
the diagnosis. Research on epigenetics, cultural or social issues,
criminal justice considerations, and other research found in
contemporary research findings in these emerging fields are
appropriate.
If the PowerPoint will be presented on a treatment, the
presentation should organized to offer a perspective of what
elements of the treatment are still unknown or are still being
researched and what future researchers should consider as they
study this treatment modality.
Conclusion: all scholarly discussions should be organized with a conclusion. Please
follow the Professional APA formatting guidelines for what should be included in a
conclusion.
