Overview

Developing a shared vision based on core values is essential for creating a healthy marriage. Couples who articulate their shared vision, mission, and set SMART goals in the seven areas of their marriage can enhance their intimacy. Pastoral counselors who are able to guide couples in this process will be more effective when performing marriage counseling.

Instructions

You are required to write a short paper in current APA or Turabian format that includes 2 sections.

First section (1 page only): You will develop an original hypothetical case study that depicts a Christian married couple you are counseling. You are to describe the couple’s background, how long they have been married, if they have children, their jobs or careers, socioeconomic status (SES), religious background, and a brief description of their current marital relationship.

Second section (2 pages only): Imagine that you are helping the couple create or revise their vision for their marriage. Complete the items below.

Values: Describe the hypothetical couple’s values related to marriage. Include what they believe about marriage, family, divorce, finances, parenting, etc.

Vision: Create a vision statement you believe this hypothetical couple would have crafted based on their values.

Mission: Create a mission statement based on the this hypothetical couple’ values and the created vision statement.

Goals: Write down two SMART goals in each of the following seven areas that you believe this hypothetical couple would need to set to accomplish their vision and mission.

Spiritual

The entire paper must be no less than 3 pages and no more than 4 pages. Papers are to include a title page with a specific title for the paper, the topic, and your name. At least 2 references are to be used to support the material in section two of the paper. References must be scholarly sources.
