Introversion
The trait I selected is Introversion. Introversion is a personality trait whereby an individual puts more attention towards internal feelings rather than towards external stimulation sources. Individuals who are termed as introverts often appear to be more reserved, quiet, and introspective. Introverts tend to require high levels of arousal and, as such, look for areas where they can escape from areas that overstimulate them.
There are common signs that introverts are known to show. Among them is the fact that they enjoy solitude. In that case, these individuals tend to prefer moments that they spend alone doing things that interest them, such as hobbies (Cherry, 2019). They also feel drained of energy after spending a great deal of time with people. As such, they feel the need to go somewhere and have some time alone. Among other signs is that of being close to a few friends. They prefer spending time with close friends from whom they have a great deal of intimacy or closeness. It might be difficult for people to know them as they are mostly quiet (Cherry, 2019).
From various findings, it is clear that introversion develops from nature and progresses through nurture. Introverts, in most cases, are born that way. However, the degree or the level of introversion is influenced by the kind of upbringing (Solo, 2016). In essence, introversion develops more from a natural cause than upbringing. However, another finding suggests that the trait of being an introvert result from the neurochemicals in our brains. The study further attributes the element of being introverted from the brain. Nevertheless, the nurture aspect is found to have a lesser influence on this trait as compared to the nature aspect. How a person is born is believed to have a more significant impact on the introvert character than how one is brought up.
