A literature review is a 1000-1500 word summary and evaluation of any GIS research topic or theme. It should answer a question like: “How have GIS and spatial analysis been used to X?”; where X might be “measure neighborhood walkability” or “study water patterns in glaciers” or “identify crime hotspots”. Graduate students are strongly encouraged to choose a topic related to their professional interests.
The review must reference at least 10 academic journal articles, books, or book chapters. Mainstream media sources may be included, but will not be counted towards the ten required references.
The paper must be 12-pt font, Times New Roman, and double-spaced. The text must be in paragraph form and end with a list of references. You can use any formalized citation style so long as it is consistent. The header for each literature review should contain the following information:
Student name
Word count of literature review
Title/Topic of literature review
