Objective: Students will write a 4-page paper from the perspective of a historical sport

Objective: Students will write a 4-page paper from the perspective of a historical sport figure of their choice. The paper will be written in the first person, and will require the student to use at least 6 scholarly sources to explain the historical significance of their figure.
Please Note: For the purpose of this assignment, a “historical sport figure” is one whose primary contributions to their sport and sport history came before 1990. If your athlete is a borderline case, please email the instructor for approval. Under no circumstances should a current athlete be used for this assignment.
Assignment: As your sport figure, you have been called before the Elections Committee for the All-Time Sports Hall of Fame to present evidence demonstrating that you belong in the ATSHOF. Using at least 6 scholarly sources, write a 4-page speech in the first person that explains your historical significance to the committee.
Evidence may be presented in the form of statistics, brief descriptions of important events, and brief explanations of athletic, social and historical significance. It may be easier to organize your speech as an argument for why you belong in the ATSHOF.

Sources should be properly cited in MLA or APA format in both the text of the paper and in a reference page. Suitable scholarly sources for this assignment include books, book chapters, academic journal articles. and significant newspaper, magazine and Internet articles from reputable sources.
