Part 1:
What is your thinking process? How do you learn? When faced with information that challenges or upends your assumptions or beliefs, how to you assimilate that information and change your thinking? Give an example.
Explain, in your own words, the differences between an opinion, an interpretation, evidence, and a theory?
From what sources (newspapers, blogs, television, etc.) do you draw the information to form your opinions? Your analysis? (Be specific, but do not simply list information, but actually name the sources you consult.)
What are your goals for this semester (besides a desired grade).
What is your relationship to prisons? What controls you? Who are you responsible to?
Part II:
Explain in detail how specific classes or experiences have prepared you for JUS 440: Prisons, Power and the Punishments of History. How are you not prepared?
Why does poverty exist? Where do prisons exist in your sociological imagination?
