Respond to the classmates’ posts in 100-150 words:
1)We have learned much about attachment and one of the most important things being that the child needs to feel safe and protected and to trust their caregivers to develop a secure attachment.  A healthy attachment is needed not only with the parents but also the daycare providers.
As early childcare providers programs can work with parents to help them understand that they are the most important person to their child and that the care they provide will determine the attachment with the child.  They can educate the parents on what healthy attachment is and how to create a healthy relationship with their child.  This will help the child to be secure in knowing that the parent will return and make the time separated less stressful.  It could also be helpful to develop program policies to provide families who need additional support by providing families information and access to materials and other resources. Programs can also have systems in place to be a bridge between families and services available in their communities.

In the caregiving setting, policies should be in place to ensure there is an appropriate caregiver/child ratio to be able to give the appropriate attention needed to each child depended on the ages and requirements.  Ensure staff are well trained and the care being provided is warm, responsive, and affectionate and caregivers are reading and responding to cues given by the children.  Relationships between the caregiver, parents and child should start to be developed in small increments and with the parent(s) present before the child is left for long periods of time.  Home visits could also be included to help build trust between the child and caregiver.

2)Infants and toddlers seek out their caregivers as a safe base for learning, regulation of social behavior, modeling, and mentoring (Lally, 2009)
Program policies that would support healthy attachment include several aspects. Appropriate ratio of child to caregiver to meet the needs of the children in their care based on age and development. The younger the child, the smaller the group size should be. This allows personalized care, freedom, and safety to explore, and the development of intimate relationships. Staff should be trained to provide appropriate care, being able to respond to cues given by children affectively, in a warm and responsive manner. Continuity is also important. There should be a healthy, collaborative relationship between parents and caregivers, with open communication and trust. The environment should also be safe and secure, to establish trusting relationships.
