Choose a salmon stock, an Evolutionarily Significant Unit (ESU), and look up its current status. Make sure you understand the definition of ESU. (here is a map of all the ESU’s to help you start http://yale.databasin.org/galleries/f60fe6a1952a416d9e41fd099f188e4f (Links to an external site.))
Please answer the following questions:
Is your ESU considered at risk of extinction?
Is it doing well? Discuss why.
Has it simply been overfished?
Is critical habitat for a particular life history stage impacted or restored?
Compare and contrast the critical factors for the survival of your stock. It might be dams, ocean conditions, spawning habitat, etc. Additionally, describe how your chosen stock is fairing throughout the northwest.
Please use data from a reputable source. Begin your search with state, or federal agencies involved in salmon management (i.e. NOAA, NMFS, ODFW, etc). One of your sources is to be an article or technical paper from a scientific journal or book. This source is to be cited as the first line of your post, correctly formatted.
