NUR4013 Module 2 Application
Effective Communication and Collaboration
Complete your Module 2 Assignment by the end of Week 2.
The purpose of this assignment is to help you continue to refine your skills as a reflective practitioner and allow you to demonstrate competencies related to effective communication patterns and collaboration through relationships. You will use technology to illustrate communication patterns and collaboration among patients, family members and healthcare providers and identify legal and ethical considerations. The assignment results in (1) a final, narrated 3-to-5 minute video presentation and (2) references page.
In preparation for the video and references page, complete these steps:
Step 1. Create
Using technology, websites, and textbook and journal resources, create a narrated video demonstrating the complex relationships of communication for each of the following:
- Patient
- Family member
- Key stakeholders in healthcare organizations
- Nurses
- Physicians
- Other members of the healthcare team.
Step 2. Link and Label
Link and label where potential barriers may occur in collaboration among the various relationships. Include a graphic representation illustrating these barriers within the body of the video presentation. For example, a barrier could be a language barrier between a patient and a nurse.
Step 3. Identify
Identify where legal and ethical issues may occur in communications among the various relationships. This could include protected health information (PHI) or HIPAA issues in addition to other considerations.
Step 4. List
List three strategies to overcome barriers and legal/ethical issues in the relationship of communications.
Step 5. Reference
Include a reference list within the body of the video as a list of “credits” to works of the authors used when creating the presentation. Use a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed journal articles (less than 5 years old).
The student will create a brief 3-5-minute professional video presentation (audio and visual) using their tool of choice selected from Digital Tools Center. This presentation will allow the student to demonstrate competence in oral communication as well as competency in digital literacy. The student will use supporting digital materials in his/her presentation as necessary to support sharing of information.
*Tips for presentation: The narrated video of you presenting information is the primary component of the assignment. You may incorporate an additional technology to assist in illustrating concepts; however, you should create the video as if you were presenting a speech to a live audience. Make notes/create the script, practice in the mirror, with others, and/or record and review, dress professionally, maintain eye contact, enunciate clearly, use correct grammar, be clear and concise. The Application assignment will be graded on quality and depth of relationships and response to all components of the assignment using the GEC Oral Communication-Digital Literacy v.1B rubric.
