Business Letters
Business letters are a primary form of technical writing. In this assignment, imagine you are the owner of a landscaping company, and due to a supplier shortage in materials, you cannot proceed with a job on time. The supplier shortage is going to take at least a week to be resolved. You will write one letter to a residential customer and another letter to a business customer addressing the delay.
Course Objectives
• Compose technical writing pieces using appropriate design principles, formatting, and stylistic features.
• Explain how well-written technical text decreases barriers to communication.
• Describe ways that language and culture impact creation of text.
Directions:
1) Save and print the Module 3 Application PDF.
2) Follow the steps to complete the assignment. Develop a Word or text document for each response. Use 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font. Follow standard form for a business letter.
3) Follow the directions to submit your final Word or text document.
Step 1. Research
Research the standard form for a business letter. You may want to begin with the presentations and the learning objects.
Step 2. Compose
Compose two one-page business letters – one to a residential customer and another to a business customer. In the letter, address your landscaping company’s delay in completing their jobs on time due to a supplier shortage in materials. The supplier shortage is going to take at least a week to be resolved. In the letters, explain the reasons for the delay, apologize for the delay, provide a timeline for starting the work, and include appropriate compensation you may feel is necessary.
For each customer, choose your wording carefully. Remember that business owners and residential customers may be motivated by entirely different factors.
