Money is a form of exchange. It allows people to get what they need to survive or benefit from services. According to Principles of Macroeconomics, by Ryan Amacher and Jennifer Pate, “money is not income, wealth, loans, or productive resources.” “Money is something that people accept as payment for goods and services.” Money can be anything like gold, stones, tobacco, and even marbles. I don’t believe money is the root of all evil because if you learn to manage your money, you wouldn’t need to do wrongdoing to others. It can be the root of all evil in today’s society because of poverty and the abundance that some have compared to others. People believe that money is worth more than it really is. Since President Nixon took us off the gold standard in 1971, the value of paper money doesn’t mean much. Paper money is just paper currency, a paper that is printed by any countries central bank or treasury. Commodity money has some intrinsic value because of the precious metals it is made out of. Credit cards are not money, in my opinion. It is a form of credit or a loan that you have to pay back. In the article “Are Credit Cards a Form of Money” by Mike Moffat he states that “credit card debt is not a liquid asset and do not fall under the definition of money according to the Federal Reserve.” Cryptocurrencies are also not a form of money. These currencies have no record of backing like gold or silver. Furthermore, with this form of currency, you cannot go to a store and buy groceries with it. Lastly, cryptocurrency is not regulated by a central bank and can’t be printed. It’s just computer-generated and doesn’t uniform the international law that governs it.
