SSC 101 Week 6 Assignment: Topic Proposal

All quarter you’ve been gathering materials loosely related to a topic of your own choosing. Now is the time to crystallize your research question/topic. Please submit a proposal, in the form of a paragraph or so, that describes the research question or research topic you would like to focus on for your final assignment. The research proposal is an opportunity to get feedback before you begin the other components of the final assignment.

Linked Students:  Remember your research topic for SSC101 should be the same as your research topic for your ENGL 102 final assignment. This will save you some time as you will not have to research two different topics — if applicable you can use the sources you found for SSC101 in ENGL102.

Directions:

• Write a paragraph or more describing your research topic – be as specific as you can.
• Consider the following:
  • What specifically do you want to know about your chosen topic?
  • Look over the resources you’ve collected so far. What patterns do you see in the material? What information do you still need to find?
  • Where might you find answers to your research question/topic? For example: What databases or search strategies may be helpful? What types of information/sources do you think will have answers? Who else might be writing about your topic (historians, psychologists, the general public, etc.)?
• Submit your proposal as a Word doc.
