Research Design and Method
The research design used was the pre-post design and the process improvement methods which compared the families levels of satisfaction before and after the algorithm implementation. It was at an interval of 24, 72 and 96 hours after one was admitted into the unit. The use of an communication algorithm that is evidence based was to improve satisfaction of families of intensive care patients with their participation in decision making and their perception of how well the unit’s team works together.
Comment on the intended audience
The study is intended for nurses so that they can improve their engagement with family members of patients in the ICU. The study is also intended for the general public to inform them of the benefits of family visitation on patients in ICU.
Compare and contrast with another article
Compared to Huffines et al. (2013) that is a cross-sectional descriptive study, the article by Clark et al. (2016) is a descriptive survey design article. The study by Huffines et al. (2013) has drawn its data from previous research on the topic while the study Clark et al. (2016) has drawn its data from questionnaires given to participants. The findings of the study by Clark et al. (2016) has been arranged the findings into themes on the mean scores for different families and their satisfaction with the care they received while the study Huffines et al. (2013) reports the statistical significance of the findings while comparing the families’ satisfaction with and without algorithm implementation.
Explain how this work increases the body of nursing knowledge and promotes evidence-based practice
