Outline of the assignment

To understand the macro perspective of Human Behavior in the Social Environment, social work students must learn to apply the framework of systems theory.

In the U.S., a national public education system was designed to be governed and located via local school systems at state and municipal levels, and have a reciprocal relationship with each other as well as within the broader society.

Using information from the two assigned readings, your group will collectively engage with the following, and then be prepared to present your findings to the class:

Critically examine and identify social problems that exist within these intersecting macro and mezzo systems, including social problems that are built into their designs.

Identity local community schools that you are aware of, or have direct experience with, and identify how your identified social problems impact those communities, families and student populations.

Identify and develop ideas and actions that need to be taken to address your identified problems.

Social work values relating to social and economic justice and human rights should serve as your compass for this assignment, as related to race, ethnicity, class, gender, ability, national origin, and more.
