COMMUNITY RESOURCE PROJECTINSTRUCTIONS
Students will compile a Community Resource Project containing a MINIMUM OF 25 agencies/organizations which provide services to the community, individuals, and/or families. Students are encouraged to collect information on a variety of types of human service agencies. These may include agencies that provide services in areas such as domestic violence, substance use, children’s services, autism, mental health issues, adult protective services, aging, disabilities, veteran’s affairs, housing, financial assistance, etc. Agencies MUST have a local office that one could use as a referral source for clients in this area. In other words, don’t use agencies with only national contact information. Imagine that you are working in Pitt County and are attempting to develop a list of agencies and services available to provide to clients who need a referral. Agencies must be located in Pitt, Beaufort, Wilson, or Greene counties. If you use a large agency such as Department of Social Services, you may only use two separate program service areas – such as Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services. You MAY NOT USE more than two programs, services or departments from any one umbrella agency (Vidant, ECU, Greenville Housing, etc.).
For each agency, the following eight items of information must be INCLUDED AND NUMBERED:Agency NameContact PersonAddressPhone/Email/WebpageProgram DescriptionDays/Hours of OperationEligibility for AdmissionFees
Students should gather this information by visiting the agency, contacting by phone or email, and/or web pages. If some portion of the agency information for 1-8 above does not apply, you must indicate this by specifying “NA.” Do not omit the item or just leave it blank. The first page of the project will be a cover page including the heading “Community Resource Project” typed in the center, followed on the next line by the student’s name, and on the last line, the course prefix, number, and section. See below: Community Resource ProjectStudent NameHSE-110-XXXX
The second page of the project will be a numbered table of contents that lists all of the agencies. This page should have the heading “Table of Contents” in the center. Agency names must match the name on the information sheet. For example, do not type ECVC on the table of contents but then East Carolina Vocational Center on the information page. Every agency must be in the table of contents and in the body of the project in the same order. You must alphabetize your table of contents. Table of ContentsAgency AAgency Betc…
Begin this project early as it will take time to gather all of the information. If you find program information on a web page you may copy and paste that into the correct format of the information sheet. If you choose to copy and paste, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ADJUST THE FONT TYPE AND SIZE TO MATCH THE REST OF THE INFORMATION. If you are missing some of the required information, i.e. it wasn’t on the webpage or on a pamphlet, contact the agency and ask. If you leave something blank, points will be deducted. If you state that information is “NA,” make sure that it is. Many of your classmates will collect information on the same agencies–if they can find it, so can you. I have and will contact agencies to inquire about something you have left blank.
Project format requirements: 1. Use 12 point font 2. Use Times New Roman or Arial fonts only 3. Complete the project as one document. Only one file may be uploaded into Moodle. 4. Use MSWord or Rich Text files only. If I can’t open the file you will receive a zero.5. Upload the file into Moodle. DO NOT EMAIL YOU PROJECT TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR. NO EMAILED ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. 6. Use a separate page for each agency.
Project Tips: 1. Eligibility refers to any requirements regarding who may receive services – under age 18, Pitt County resident, etc.2. Just because an agency is Non-profit DOES NOT mean that its services are “free”. Make sure to ask about fees. 3. Make sure that you ask for the specific title of the “Contact Person”. Do not assume they are the director/supervisor, etc.4. It may be a good idea to submit your first information sheet to your instructor forreview. You may email this to me if you so choose. I will be happy to make corrections or suggestions.
5. If you contact an agency by phone, please introduce yourself and explain that you are completing a project for a class at PCC. Describe the information that you need and thank them for their time!
