Cultural Diversity Education Plan
Goal 1: Improve the proper handling of patient information
Strategy- Establish a program for the proper disposal of patient records
All the medical staff in the three hospitals should undergo formal training in the program. The medical staff within the associated health institutions should be adequately educated and trained on the proper patient record security protocols. This involves informing the staff on the need to shred documents on a regular basis. The nurses and other healthcare providers should be informed about how compliance with HIPAA rules requires proper handling of patient information (Mattingly, 1996). All employees should have an understanding and compliance with the patient record security protocols. Following this training and the completion of the program, a signed acknowledgment should be required from every employee with a verification that they understood the information included in the formal training. This will ensure that there is increased efficiency associated with the disposal of patient records, along with compliance with security guidelines.
Goal 2: Enhance Patient Confidentiality
Strategy: Provide regular training on patient confidentiality and secure systems
Employees can only adhere to policies and practices when they have a proper understanding of what they involve. Hence, regular training sessions for all staff members assist in reinforcing the significance of confidentiality requirements while refreshing their staff duties. Patients should also receive training on the coding system as a security measure for patient information. In this way, the employees will be clear on the responsibilities and the duties that are expected of them concerning patient confidentiality. Moreover, they will also be more knowledgeable about the coding system that is implemented within the health facilities. This will increase the efficiency of coding within these hospital systems.
