Cybervetting
Please create a document to introducing cybervetting and related best practices to University students that are preparing to apply for full-time or part-time positions.
Your written content must be at least 600 words.
As a document, make sure to format with appropriate heading, subheadings and layout decisions to highlight key portions of the document.
Your paper should answer the following questions:
- What is cybervetting?
- Provide a fictional scenario or paraphrase a news report to help your audience learn what cybervetting is.
- Make the fictional scenario accessible to your audience, meaning ensure the characters and story are relevant to your audience. Do this by constructing a persona/profile that summarizes your intended audience’s demographic attributes, their needs, values, and contexts.
- Which students would benefit most the information you are providing? For example, Aisha might claim that students looking for internships would benefit from a cybervetting resource. Then Aisha must think about the academic year (e.g., first-year, second-year, third-year, fourth/senior year) when students in her major typically look for internships. (Except Aisha is not even 4 years old and doesn’t have to worry about any of this. Yet.)
- Cite at least two relevant scholarly readings and contrast cybervetting from older approaches to vetting job applicants.
- Why should students care about cybervetting? Is cybervetting legal? How is cybervetting different than running a background check?
- How prevalent is cybervetting in different industries? Does it happen a lot or only infrequently?
- What are some practical reasons for employers and recruiters to engage in cybervetting?
- What are the implications of cybervetting for job applicants?
- What are the kinds of information sought by employers?
- Explain how candidates may be evaluated positively and negatively depending on the types of information reviewed by recruiters online.
- Which demographic and/or social identities are most likely to be impacted by cybervetting?
- What are ways in which students applying for internships, coops and full-time positions can prepare for cybervetting? Create three scenarios centering on individuals with varying digital identities and presence to illustrate the best practices (i.e., Do’s and Don’ts) listed above.
- List at least threeDo’s and three Don’ts and make specific reference to best practices for using the key platforms/apps that are most likely to facilitate cybervetting of job applicants?
- Make sure to suggest best practices for using both personal and professionalplatforms that can be targeted by employers/recruiters during cybervetting.
- Provide a list of academic and popular press references on cybervetting. Your list should include at least four academic and two popular press articles on the topic of cybervetting.
