First Individual Paper Guidelines

1) Using the criteria outlined in the document titled Five Steps for Developing a Successful Proposal, assemble a paper proposal and submit it to the Instructor. Your proposal must be approved prior to starting your writing project. –ALREADY APPROVED: Drugs – Legalization of marijuana and/or other prohibited drugs

2) Prepare a 5-7-page paper (typed, double spaced, 1-inch margins, 12 pitch font) based upon your chosen ethical topic that aligns with the following criteria:

a) To research your topic, you are required to use only the search engines provided in the document titled: Five Approved Academic Sites for Research.b) Your paper should contain a minimum of 6 cited references from the approved academic sites, using the APA format. However, if you are using the Divine Command Theory you are allowed to use a minimum of 3 cited references from the approved academic sites, with the remaining references from whichever sacred text you select. In addition, all sources must be properly referenced on a separate page at the conclusion of your paper. (18 points) c) Provide a general overview of the ethical topic, at least one substantial paragraph in length, describing why you believe it is an important subject to study. (10 points)d) Provide a clearly written perspective that persons could embrace when considering this topic. This can be copied directly from your paper proposal. (2 points)Choose the following ethical theory–Kantian Ethics. Using the theory definition furnished on the document titled Insights to Assist with the Integration of Ethical Theories in Research Papers, develop clear and rational arguments to demonstrate how your chosen theory can be utilized to both support and challenge your perspective. (45 points).

When evaluating these criteria, I will be looking for the following:

i. Was your chosen ethical theory correctly defined, using the theory definition provided in the document titled Insights to Assist with the Integration of Ethical Theories in Research Papers?

ii. Was your perspective clearly identified within the document?

iii. Was your theory accurately presented, through the use of clear and rational arguments, to demonstrate how it could be utilized to both support and challenge your perspective? e) Provide a summary, at least one substantial paragraph in length, containing a minimum of two new insights and/or unanswered questions that surfaced from your study. Finally, conclude your paper with an overview of your own personal perspective. (10 points) f) At the conclusion of your paper, use your chosen career path (either what you are presently doing as a vocation, or what you hope to do upon graduation) as a basis for answering the following questions:

• List one or two ethical challenges you have either faced in the workplace, or anticipate encountering. For each ethical challenge listed, use what you have learned in this course to discuss what you believe are the ethical standards expected of an employee when they encounter each challenge.

• Finally, indicate which ethical theory or theories studied in this course (Virtue Ethics, Act/Rule Utilitarian, or Kantian Ethics) best represents your own life and worldview. In a closing paragraph provide a detailed illustration as to how this ethical theory has been illustrated by you through your own personal life, or within your current vocation. (15 points).
