Employment laws are developed to govern the relationship between employers and their employees. Employment laws are found in both federal and state laws with the overall aim of protecting the rights of workers. Employment laws regulate these rights and also ensures that the minimum requirements are met in the job (Legal Career Path, 2018). Employment laws cover a wide range of areas, some of which include minimum wage laws, medical and family leave, overtime pay, safe working conditions, and various forms of discrimination.
In the case of Aiden, failure to promote his employees basically because of their gender, he violated the law of promotional discrimination. Promotional discrimination is prohibited when based on the wrong reasons. More so, Aiden prevented the promotion of a protected class, where the law stipulates against illegal reasons for failure to promote. These illegal reasons include the failure to promote with regard to people’s gender, religious beliefs, ethnicity, race, and physical disabilities, among other reasons (Shouse Law California Group, 2018). The fact that there was not a single legitimate reason for not promoting his employees, then Aiden is liable to the violation of promotional discrimination.
In response to Mandy’s means of handling employees’ compensation, it is clear that Mandy is violating their rights based on salary increase. As the employment laws stipulate, people should be paid on the actual work that they perform. In Mandy’s case, however, she aims to pay her employees based on cultural immersion. The employees can seek legal assistance based on unlawful means for compensation. Mandy aims at developing a deep organizational culture for her employees by increasing their salaries on the basis and level of cultural immersion, which is indeed wrong. Employees ought to be paid for the actual work done and increase their salaries based on their quality and performance.
