Resume and Cover Letter
In this application assignment, locate a technical writing job for which you wish to apply. Then write a resume and a cover letter to accompany your job application.
Course Objectives
• Compose technical writing pieces using appropriate design principles, formatting, and stylistic features.
• Outline and apply the technical writing process.
Directions:
1) Save and print the Module 1 Application PDF.
2) Follow the steps to complete your assignment. Develop Word documents in 11- or 12-point Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman font – one for the resume and another for the cover letter.
3) Use the Module 1 presentations, the learning objects, and your own research to guide your creation of a resume and a cover letter.
4) Follow the directions to submit your final Word or text document.
Step 1. Locate
Locate a technical writing job for wish you wish to apply. Note the company/organization, address, name of hiring manager (if available) for use in your cover letter. Copy the job advertisement for reference by your instructor. You may place the advertisement at the bottom of the cover letter for reference purposes.
Step 2. Develop
Using the resources in the course presentations and learning objects, develop a resume appropriate to the technical writing position. You may need to research the company/organization and the audience to write an effective resume.
Step 3. Compose
Compose a one-page cover letter to accompany the resume. Use the cover letter as a chance to sell yourself. You may need to research the company/organization to write an effective cover letter and resume.
