What are their physical characteristics? How have people of these regions chosen to use the resources available to them? In what ways is culture different in these regions; in what ways are they the same? In what ways has the history of Texas relate to distributions we witness today?
A Place is a space that people give meaning to. In our case, we are thinking about the space that encompasses the State of Texas. This land and its political boundary have changed over time. Furthermore the land that encompasses Texas was territory for different six countries: Spain (1519–1821), France (1685–1690), Mexico (1821–1836), the Republic of Texas (1836–1845), the Confederate States of America (1861–1865), and the United States of America (1845–1861; 1865–present). Before that, it was home to many indigenous communities. Today as you think about ‘Texas’, it means something to you. This meaning is a product of both society and your personal experience. Write a short paper on what Texas as a Place means to you? How do you define it? What do you tell people from other states/countries about Texas? What common misconceptions exist about Texas as a place?
