For this week’s lab assignment, you will develop the last part of your proposed research study- Proposed Outcomes aka Discussion
Refer to the proposed outcome template and below.
Based on what you already read and also understanding research methodology better, ask yourself :
What does a significant finding mean to the outcome (hypothesis true)? What about a non-significant (hypothesis not true)?
After thoroughly reviewing literature found on the topic,  were there any findings that will support and predict your study outcomes?
Does the research design you will use accurately measure your findings? Is this the best type of design?
Another component will be limitations.
Do you foresee any limitations in your study? For instance, is your sample difficult to obtain and if so, will it affect your ability to apply findings to the general population? Do environmental factors, such as experiencing a pandemic, influence or affect participation in your study? Are there other factors, such as access inability to test specific population due to ethical issues etc affect who you can test?
Implications of Study
For this section, you want to discuss how the findings can affect/add/contribute to the field of psychology. How will this affect your specified area of research? For instance, how will your findings examining stress among college students help college students? Will it affect screening procedures on campus, availability of resources for students, etc.?
Directions for Future Research
Given that you are predicting your results will show some significant outcome or prove your hypotheses true, what next? Based on answering your question, what other research could be constructed? For instance, if you find that substance abuse does increase one’s susceptibility to schizophrenia, a future research direction may want to examine specific substances to see which has higher effect levels. Or possibly examining other types of non-substance abuse behaviors that may increase risk of schizophrenia expressions.
