HW 5: Geocoding (Pin-mapping)
Create an Excel file including these columns: Name, Street Address, Zip Code, State, and City of 10 high schools in sheet 1 of Excel file and 6 universities/colleges (including Morgan State) in sheet 2 of Excel file, in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area.
Download line shapefile of Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Cecil County, Howard County and Harford County from Census.gov.
Add all 5 downloaded shapefiles and excel file to ArcMap. Merge 5 downloaded shapefiles and save it as Your First Name_Merge_County.
Using the Your First Name_Merge_County files, Create Address Locator and geocode the addresses of the 10 high schools and save it as Your First Name_Highschools and 6 universities/colleges and save it as Your Firt Name_Universties compiled in task 1.
Use buffer analysis to identify all the universities/colleges within 5 miles from Morgan State University and create a layer and save it as Your First Name_Universities_5Miles_Morgan.
Use buffer analysis to determine all the high schools with 5 miles from Morgan State University and create a layer and save it as Your First Name_HighSchools_5Miles_Morgan.
Develop a two-color thematic map showing the high schools within 5 miles versus greater than 5 miles from Morgan State University and create a layer and save it as Your First Name_HighSchools_Less_Greater_5Miles_Morgan.
Pack and save your final map containing all layers as Your First Name_HW5 and submit it on canvas.
