Impacts of WHO Functions on Local Communities

The World Health Organization is a global organ under the larger umbrella of the United Nations. It is charged with matters about the wellbeing of the people living in the world among the member states. The United States of America is one of the nations who are member states of the United Nations; hence, it is under the WHO as the main organ controlling the health of the people in the country. The World Health Organization has a variety of duties to ensure that people are safe and healthy. It ranges from environmental sanitation, prevention, curing and rehabilitation of the people who have different health challenges (World Health Organization, 2013). WHO is also charged with the mandates of controlling pharmaceutical production and selling, clinical trials, among other duties. In America, its responsibilities have had a significant impact on the local communities of the US, such as improving the health of the people, environmental sanitation, prevention of diseases and other critical issues. As a result, this has assisted the communities to remain healthy and productive to the economy of their communities and the entire nation.

Similarly, my local community enjoys benefits that result from the work of the World Health Organization by ensuring that the health of the member is taken care of and as such, the people remain healthy and productive to the economy. Additionally, through the health promotion function of this organization, the community members get the necessary information on how to prevent themselves from infectious diseases as well as non-communicable ones. WHO also provides a system of how to treat infections effectively to ensure a quality treatment that in return, saves the lives of the people hence increasing the life expectancy of the people (World Health Organization, 2013). Overall, the work of the WHO is impactful to the wellbeing of the people from my community and those from the local communities in America.
