Industry Analysis

There are 3 cases you need to analyze Hilinex, Laser Vision 2015 and Fluor. You need to do porter 5

forces in the excel format, one page/per case. Here is an example I attached from the professor

(Canadian Retail Banking).
Here are the instructions from the professor:

These three cases will be used for your industry analysis assignment. Specifically, using the

information in the cases, you will develop an Industry Analysis outline similar to the Canadian Retail

Banking analysis, for each of these industries. To be clear, that means you are analyzing these

industries at the time of the cases.

To make things a little easier on you, I will define the scope of these analyses as follows:

 
Hilinex: Plastic Bag Industry in BC.

Laser Vision 2015: North American Laser Surgery Industry

Fluor: Global Mining-Engineering Industry

Use the Banking Industry EXCEL sheet as a boilerplate for these analyses. Characterize each factor

(intensive rivalry, etc.) and list in some reasonable order the key variables affecting each factor with

accompanying +/- signs for each variable (Minimum 5 points for each factor). The variables

themselves should be brief, similar to bullet points. For example, “significant scale effects”, or perhaps

“lack of significant scale effects”. Resist the temptation to describe. Avoid the creation of clutter. The

key is choosing the right economics variables to list. A caveat to the omission-of-descriptions is that you

may want to show sub-variables, for example, the banking analysis would be improved by having a

sub-variable under IT Providers in the Supply Factor indicating “high switching cots”.

You should also explain briefly why the point for each factor is relevant.
