Innovation in Nursing and Healthcare

Technology has infiltrated the healthcare environment.  Nursing is taking a more active role in moving ideas to solutions.  Innovation in nursing is extremely important for improving health, preventing diseases, minimizing work arounds and improving working conditions. Some of these innovations have improved safety, increased efficiency, and impacted costs.  Other technology, although beneficial, can be disruptive.   A few examples of enabling technology include mobile workstations, point of care devices, wireless scanners, antimicrobial keyboards, telehealth and communication devices.

Write a brief paper (3-4 pages not including title page and reference page) on the role the technology and innovation topics selected have on nursing and healthcare delivery. 

Select from one of the following topics:

Gen AI

Smart beds

Smart pumps

Wearables

Health Apps

Robotics

Virtual nursing

Topics that cannot be written about are the Electronic Health Record (EHR), Computerized physician order entry (CPOE), telehealth including virtual ICU.

Additional topics will be considered but confirm with faculty before proceeding.

How can this technology or innovation be used to enhance patient safety? Be specific and explain your answers.

Why is this technology/innovation in nursing (or healthcare) important? Be specific and explain your answers.

Are there any real or potential ethical issues with the innovation or technology?  If so, explain.

How does the topic you selected address the course objectives? Be specific and explain your answers.

References required to support your ideas. Minimum of 4 references, that are recent no more than 10-15 years old.  Two of which must be peer reviewed.  Your textbook cannot be used as one of the counted references. 

Use APA format. 

Maximum length is 6 pages with title page and reference page.
