journal writeup

These assignments are called journal entries because they require you to become self-aware, take a look at yourself and your relationships, and define a clear action plan for improvement. These entries are private.
JournalThis journal entry requires you to draw on your insights and your powers of observation are turned on you and your family members.
Part 1Choose a time when you spent time with a group of people who you consider family. This may be a memory or a get together than happened recently. This works better if this is a time when there are at least 4 people (preferably adults) gather in one place. When you review this experience you will focus on two aspects of this event.
Body LanguageAs in the discussion board assignment, please observe body language of those that are present. Identify the reason for the get together, who is in attendance, and then observe situational context. For example, were the individuals seated at a meal? engaged in a discussion? watching TV “together?” Etc. Use the terminology we learned to better define what you are observing including but not limited to proxemics, artifacts, and haptics. Support your observations with specific examples from this event.
Non-ListeningAfter you have identified the body language that was observed, focus on the listening that was going on as well. Our textbook provides six forms of non-listening: pseudolistening, monopolizing, selective listening, defensive listening, ambushing, and literal listening. Describe your observations of the different types of listening taking place with specific examples.
Part 2 -Analysis• After reviewing both situations (non-listening and body language), what were your key observations.• Did you notice any particular patterns in how each person participated in the family dynamic? • How did these patterns impact the way that you communicate? • What was the result of the non-listening? • What could have been done differently?• What conclusions do you draw from this observational exercise?
