Literature Review Revision

A good literature review describes current knowledge on the topic, reviews the evidence for and significance of the project, and critiques the quality of research evidence on the topic.

Problem- Whether the mentorship program at the high school is being implemented as intended; data from the process evaluation will determine if this is indeed the case. (located in Georgia)

Goal of this process evaluation is to examine the processes that McNair high school use to implement their teacher mentorship program.

Major needs:

Explain the project plan which includes the goal, program question, the project need, how it will be used, and/or the project’s significance.

Analyze appropriate literature that sufficiently covers the topic and relates to the program question.

Describe the methodological strengths and weaknesses of the current research.

Describe how research informs the program question and potential conclusions.

Summarize the literature to develop arguments with evidence to support claims.

The relevance of this program to human services throughout the paper when necessary- (high teacher retention rates lead impact student learning which impacts college readiness, less likely to go to college or get a job).

The stance of the evaluator needs to be neutral and not assume anything.

Research on mentorship programs (teaching or other types of professional) can be used.

Literature Review

1. Analyze appropriate literature that sufficiently covers the topic and relates to the program question.

-Write a critical evaluation and synthesis of the relevant literature on your topic, explaining how the evidence from the scholarly literature leads to your conclusions.

2. Evaluate the methodological strengths and weaknesses of the current relevant research.

-Critically evaluate the quality of evidence in the literature by critiquing the strengths and weaknesses of the methodologies used in the empirical literature on your topic.

-Evaluate the strategies researchers used to enhance the reliability and validity of their quantitative studies, and those used in qualitative methods to enhance the credibility, trustworthiness, and transparency of their findings.

3. Apply the research to the program question and potential conclusions.

-How do the arguments from the literature inform your program question and potential conclusions? The discussion should demonstrate a thorough understanding of the main topic, scope, and purpose of the project.

4. Synthesize the literature to develop arguments with evidence to support claims.

-Synthesize the literature using the MEAL Plan to develop arguments for most paragraphs with a main idea/claim, evidence for that main idea, analysis of the evidence, and linking/transition to the next main idea.
