Your initial post and subsequent comments will be graded based on the Discussion Rubric. Initial postings will be marked down per day late after Wednesday; responses posted after Saturday will not be graded.

Specifically, read the following passages from Robert A. Caro’s, The Power Broker (ereserves):

  • Ch. 10, “The Best Bill Drafter in Albany.” (pp. 172-177)
  • Ch. 11, “The Majesty of the Law.” (pp. 181-196; 202-206)
  • Ch. 12, “Robert Moses and The Creature of the Machine.” (pp. 207-209; 213-220).

Please answer the following (in no more than 500 words max), treating Robert Moses as the influencer) and the wealthy, powerful, and extremely well-connected individuals who were his opponents as the targets:

  • Describe how Moses used resources to create power for himself (hint: be sure to apply the lesson in the Pfeffer readings in answering this question)
  •  Why weren’t his opponents more effective in opposing him?
