to procreate and love, and that the forest represents a dark, safe place. It would be interesting to bring in
Freud’s concept of the “Id” here, as well as other literary works to compare and contrast. For instance, AS YOU
LIKE IT takes place in a forest, certain scenes of hilarity and hi-jinks occur in the forest in HENRY IV, PART
ONE, and there are a number of great works of fiction that use this motif (Hawthorne, Twain, etc.).
