Instructions

Read the IDEO Product Development case in your Harvard packet (see Syllabus for link) and answer the following questions:

• Describe in detail the process that IDEO follows for the development of innovation.  Identify the phases and transition points in the process as well as the tools the IDEO uses to manage the process.  In your opinion, is the process effective or not?  Be sure to explain your answer.
• Describe and discuss the organizational architecture that surrounds the IDEO innovation process.  Include a discussion of organizational structure, culture and management practices and how each influences the IDEO innovation process.
• Given your description of the IDEO innovation system, do you think that the Visor project from Handspring is a good fit?  What should IDEO do with the Handspring project (accept as is, attempt to modify it, or reject it)?  Explain your answers. Share your answers with your group members and collaborate with your group to provide a group answer to the questions.

• Have one group member submit your work as a Word document
• Showing group contributions: Please put your initials in parenthesis & bold, i.e. “(rsb)” next to contributions you make on the paper. This will insure accountability between group members and give the instructor a overall view of who did what.  While the group will all usually receive the same grade – I reserve the right to make adjustments if I notice discrepancies in the group contributions.
• Create separate, bolded section on the paper noting which case question you are answering.
• There is no maximum or minimum word count for the questions. Make sure you answer them completely.

Tools for Group Collaboration

There are many options that your group can use to collaborate and work on this paper. Note that Penn State provides students with free access to Box (Links to an external site.). This is a great tool for collaborating on writing a group paper since you can track revisions, etc. Nevertheless, your group is not restricted to using any particular software.
