Clinical Practice Experience (CPE) Project, Part 2 – Common Issues in Nursing Leadership

• Complete required reading
• Review the rubric
• Analyze and evaluate management strategies on a nursing unit. This can be in your current position (recommended), a previous position, or one with which you are acquainted.
• Write a 75-100 word analysis for each of the top 5 issues on that unit (use the list below) you have identified either through a literature search or during the interview with the nurse leader in part 1 of the CPE project.

For each issue identified, include the following in the discussion:

• Identify the issue
• Define the issue
• Describe how the issue impacts the nursing staff of that unit
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the management strategies used by the nurse leader
• Focus on the issue and its impact on the unit – Do not provide solutions

Common issues facing the nurse leader:

• Collective bargaining
• Shared governance (Magnet status)
• Staffing ratios
• Safe patient care
• Bullying/incivility
• Peer review performance appraisal
• Impaired staff
• Refusal to care for a patient/patient abandonment
• Violence to nurses/current legislation
• BSN in 10 movement
• Advanced degrees= improved outcomes
• Nurse burnout
• Other
• Follow APA guidelines. Include a title and reference page, with a minimum of three references.
