It is your responsibility to check and make sure that you have uploaded both the correct files.

Zero mark will be given if you try to bypass the SafeAssign (e.g. misspell words, remove spaces between words, hide characters, use different character sets or languages other than English or any kind of manipulation).

Email submission will not be accepted.

You are advised to make your work clear and well-presented. This includes filling your information on the cover page.

You must use this template, failing which will result in zero mark.

You MUST show all your work, and text must not be converted into an image, unless specified otherwise by the question.

Late submission will result in ZERO mark.

The work should be your own, copying from students or other resources will result in ZERO mark.

Use Times New Roman font for all your answers.

Question One‎

Compare the following three telecommunications media: twisted -pair wire, coaxial cable, and fiber-optics.

The three telecommunications media are one of the fundamental components of network resources that work together with the network infrastructure to power network resources and network capabilities between different Information Systems.

They are split into two categories, those who link network channels physically, such as:

Twisted-pair wire

Coaxial cable

Fiber-optics

whilst other connect the channels using waves that are invisible, called wireless technologies.

Twisted-Pair Wire

Abo‎ut: They are the ordinary wires that were used to power the telephone i‎‎nfrastructure.

Material used: They are made of copper.

How they are made: They consist of two copper wires twisted into a pair (hence, the name). This pairing is done in order to reduce electrical noise over long distances and get better linking.

Insulation/Shielding: This pair of copper wires is shielded to further improve transmission speed.

Speed: Their speed ranges from 2 million bits (unshielded) to 100 million bits per second (shielded)

Current Usage: They are now used worldwide for both voice and data transmission (i.e., telephones and networks) For example, used in home LAN networks and office telephone systems.

Coaxial Cable

About: They are the cables used in cable companies (television).

Material Used: They are made of sturdy copper OR aluminum.

How they are made: They consist of copper/aluminum wires wrapped with spacers for insulation and protection.

Insulation/Shielding: The cover and insulation minimize interference and distortion.

Speed: Their speed ranges from 200 million to more than 500 million bits per second (i.e., 200–500 Mbps)

Current Usage:

in high-service metropolitan areas instead of Twisted-pair.

for cable television systems.

for short-distance connections of computers and peripheral devices.

Coaxial cables are also used in many office buildings and other work sites for local area networks

Fiber-Optics

About: Newest type of physical telecommunication media between previous ones. They use pulses of visible light element instead of electricity.

Material used: They are made of glass-fiber.

How they are made: They consist of one or more hair-thin filaments of glass-fiber wrapped in protective jacket.

Insulation/Shielding: Protective jacket allows fast transmission rates.

Speed: Trillions of bits per second (terabits per second = tpbs)

Current Usage: Because they do not produce electromagnetic radiation, there is no interference ad they are used in underwater cables or in Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) services.

Question Two

Explain the goals of enterprise collaboration systems and provide an example for each type of the enterprise collaboration tools.

We must first understand what Enterprise Collaboration Systems (ECS) are. Enterprise Collaboration Systems are cross-functional information systems whose purpose are to enhance the team members work by enhancing communication, coordination and collaboration between the members of business teams and workgroups.

ECS does this enhancement by its use of different information technologies, especially internet technologies by providing tools that help team members to collaborate and work on a project together, communicate ideas and share resources as well as coordinate and document work efforts.

Hence, the goals of ECS are to enable team members to work together more easily and effectively by allowing us to:

Communicate: Share information with each other.

Coordinate: Organize our individual work efforts and use of resources.

Collaborate: Work together cooperatively on joint projects and assignments.

The types and examples of ECS are:

Electronic Communications Tools:

E-Mail

Instant Messaging

Faxing

Voice Mail

Web Publishing

Electronic Conferencing Tools

Voice Conferencing

Video Conferencing

Discussion Forums

Chat Systems

Electronic Meeting Systems

Collaborate Work management Tools

Calendaring and scheduling

Question Three

Explain the importance of the community and Online behavior in targeted marketing.

First and foremost, targeted marketing is the process and tools of marketing with a purpose, by focusing your marketing efforts on the number of individuals (i.e., community) that are worthwhile these efforts.

Targeted marketing consists of 5 targeting components:

Communi‎ty

Content

Context

Demographic/Psychographic

Online Behavior

Community: The community component is important for when it comes to targeted marketing as it depicts the specific communities and groups of people to which companies can start to customize their web advertising messages or different promotion methods in order to appeal to these specific communities, further enhancing the targeting effect. As without the community aspect of targeted marketing, there won’t be a target audience (specific community) to which the company can tailor their methods.

For example, advertising sportswear and sports equipment in online communities and websites of online sporting enthusiasts is an effective way of applying the community component in efforts of achieving targeted marketing.

Online Behavior: The online behavior component is important as it allows companies to further enhance its targeting by tailoring its promotion and advertising efforts to EACH visit to a site by EACH individual. Hence, companies can start to use different promotion methods for each individual which is more accurate for each individual.

This can be done by the use of tracking techniques on the web such as using Cookie files that record the visitors’ activity and behavior for when they visit a particular site, and it is retrieved from the individuals disk drive on each visit to that website.

For example, we can enhance a shopping experience for a certain sport-enthusiast individual by showing him more relative items about sports rather than showing him the typical list of products that are av alible on the whole website.

Question Four

Discuss any two of the four types(trends)of customer relationship management and their business value.‎

Firstly, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) are system that use Information Technologies (IT) to integrate and automate many of the customer-serving processes, with the aim of acquiring and retaining the most profitable customers

Trends in CRM include:

Operational CRM

Operational CRM is a type of CRM that supports customer interaction through a variety of channels (phone, fac, e-mail, chat, etc.) whilst synchronizing the interactions consistently for each customer across all channels.

This makes the company easier to do business with.

Analytical CRM

This type of CRM is concerned with extraction of in-depth customer history, preferences and profitable information that you had collected in your data warehouse and other databases.

It allows you to analyze this in-depth information for better predictability and behavior expectation, driving the promotion methods and forecasting of needs.

This allows for better approach to customer with tailored needs and promotion methods.

Collaborative CRM

Collaborative CRM is concerned with easing the process of collaboration with customer, suppliers and partners.

As a result, it allows for efficiency and integration between the different stakeholders in the supply chain.

This makes the company and the supply chain overall more responsive to the customer needs.

Portal-Based CRM

Portal-based CRM provides end-users of the Information System with th tools and information in a quick manner tailored to their roles and preferences.

This makes the response of end-users (employees) to customers more quick and more tailored, further driving customer-focus.

It also allows the system to be accessible in an instant, allowing the end-users to quickly use and share all of the customer information that they need to carry out their tasks.
