The purpose of this assignment is to enable students to gain an understanding of an important early figure in American Methodism how that individual adapted the Methodist tradition to his particular context and shaped the broader American Methodist tradition by reading a recent scholarly biography. read Newman’s Freedom’s Prophet. Write a 4-5 page review of the selected text by providing a concise summary of the most relevant portions of the work in a way that would be intelligible to a person who has not read the book, such as an interested lay person with no knowledge of Methodist history. The paper should then provide a critical assessment of the book in question.
Papers will be evaluated by clarity of writing, accuracy, consistency, the ability to make a coherent argument, and fidelity to proper academic standards.
