Should the defendants be handled as juveniles or adults

It links to a piece (lengthy, but interesting!) about two 12-year-olds, Anissa Geyser and Morgan Weier, who were charged as adults in the attempted murder of their friend, Peyton Leutner. Geyser and Weier planned the attack on Leutner, with Geyser ultimately stabbing Leutner 19 times. Leutner survived and the Geyser and Weier were quickly apprehended. This is a very bizarre case, not only because of the age of the defendants and the nature of the offense, but because of the “Slender Man” connection – that is, the state’s allegation that the defendants planned to commit murder in order to impress a fictional character (an internet meme).
What do you think of this case? Should the defendants be handled as juveniles or adults (knowing that this decision will have a dramatic impact on the maximum penalty that the defendants could receive)?
