So think…. Narrative: Wonder Woman as you have described…frame your why around life without war, hate, and violence etc..
Think… Informative: What is the symbol of Justice and where did it come from…
Think… Persuasive: Does our justice system need an overhaul…
Wonder Woman has stood for nearly eighty years as a symbol of truth, justice and equality to people everywhere.
She represents the possibility and potential of life without war, hate or violence, and she is a beacon of hope to all who find themselves in need. She stands as an equal among the most powerful Super Heroes, with a sense of purpose to protect the world from injustice in all forms.
Unfortunately, about six people die as homicide victims per 100,000 people worldwide every year (Sundkvist, 11). Similarly, one in every four women and one in every ten men experience extreme forms of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse in their lifetime (Smith et al., 7). My name is Ana Gomez, a twenty-two-year-old student from Miami FL. I am not a criminology expert, but I use contemporary media to shape my life positively. Today, I will take three minutes to inspire us to reduce violence in our lives by living a life similar to Wonder Woman. Yes, Wonder Woman is a fictional character with enormous superhuman strength and abilities. However, Wonder Woman is human due to her empathy and vigilance when dealing with injustice, hate, and violence. Humans can achieve higher life quality by applying Wonder Woman’s fundamental qualities of empathy and vigilance to reduce the rates of hate and victimization in society.
Wonder Woman is an empathic character, illustrated by how she chooses to arrest criminals rather than exterminating them. Criminals are humans who hurt others when they disregard established social and ethical norms. The levels of domestic violence are high because people lack empathy. People choose to hurt someone instead of understanding why they hurt them. If one insults you, you insult them back instead of understanding how they felt. The retaliation magnifies the level of human conflict, leading to high victimization or homicide. Wonder Woman retaliates empathically. She does not shoot armed robbers who open fire towards her. Instead, she uses her Lasso of Truth to safely bind the perpetrators and take them to the police for arrest. We can apply this principle by seeking to understand hate rather than retaliating.
Similarly, Wonder Woman is a vigilant citizen. Wonder Woman is always watchful for signs and incidents of victimization. Once Wonder Woman spots the threat, she intervenes to end the victimization. Humans do not need super-hearing powers to be vigilant. All that is needed is observing human interaction and reporting incidences of violence or hate to the designated higher authority. For instance, at school, all incidents of bullying should be reported to the school administration. At home, all forms of domestic violence should be reported to the police. Being vigilant inhibits the amplification of minor victimization and hate behavior in society.
In conclusion, humans can achieve higher life quality by applying Wonder Woman’s empathy and vigilance qualities to reduce hate and victimization in society. People need to be empathetic to sympathize and understand perpetrators of hate instead of retaliating. Additionally, humans need to uphold vigilance to report incidences of injustice and victimization. Reporting prevents the aggravation of minor incidences into scenarios of adverse human suffering or homicides. I appreciate your attention very much. I hope Wonder Woman inspires us to be more empathetic and vigilant human beings.
