Steve Jobs 1983 Interview
Symbolic analysis entails a method of interpretation using symbols. Symbolic expressions are used to describe the content of a film, journal, or even in mathematics (Cremers, 2017). In the video, symbolic analysis has been utilized by Steve Jobs through the use of a comparison between Apple and IBM in a larger scale. There is also a part where they have incorporated a video showing a lady who is running and breaks a screen using a device (Jones, 2014). Steve was talking about how IBM was aiming to become a monopoly in the PC market and how Apple was determined to break such a cryptic belief (Jones, 2014). IBM wanted to control the market, but Apple was dedicated to bringing out the Macintosh project that would make 1984 seem pretty different.

On the other hand, rational analysis is a theoretical framework that is used in cognitive science to explain the purpose and function of cognitive processes in the study of the structure of the business environment (Griffiths, 2015). Much of what Steve Jobs does in the video is rational analysis where he starts by giving a brief history of the plan of IBM to control the tech and pc environment, how Apple developed the first-ever PC and was rejected by IBM with IBM PC posing direct rivalry as well as the plan for Apple Inc. to revolutionize not only the pc environment but also the future of the technology.
The two have a very formidable influence in the referent power, Apple Inc., in that they have helped the company to sell its objectives and be on top of the market competition. This is more of a mockery and a challenge to IBM, who is the direct rival and, for a very long time, undermined the works of Steve Job’s Apple. As such, this critical in enabling the company to stand tall amidst competition and also explain the objectives of the future.
The most likely outcome of the speech is that Apple was able to establish a stronger market, as seen with the future prediction of market trends. Jobs promises the invention and release of Macintosh. Much of the speech is looking into the future, predicting that Apple would become a leading PC technologist in the country and world and that every house would own a PC. This speech as made when Apple was still making its foundations, but much have changed from the time Steve Jobs made the speech. As of now, Apple is one of the largest consumer electronics manufacturer and also one of the most profitable in terms of its MacBook and PCs.
Another result of the speech would have been a lawsuit filing by IBM, who were attacked directly by Steve Jobs throughout the entire video. This might seem like an unhealthy way to do advertisement and business. Jobs is jeopardizing the works of IBM and IBM PC through directly stating that Apple would eliminate such a form of competition and market control and establish their own with the release of Macintosh. Apple went ahead and became the leading producer of PCs while IBM pc did not pause a threat anymore.
