TASK: This assignment requires that you practice close reading and annotate an article (attached below). STEP ONE: Read the linked article by Yoo. “4 Ways Technology Can Help Us Respond to Disasters” and use the Word document of this article attached below. Yoo.docx Yoo.docx – Alternative Formats STEP TWO: Annotate sections of the article. For example, highlight any of the keywords you identified and write your own comments/insights in the margins. Take a screenshot (or a picture if you are using a print version) of your annotated section of the story. Save it as a PDF and attach it to your Word document. Submit the entire exercise (both the annotated article and Steps 2-3) to me by the due date.TIPS for ANNOTATING:There are many different ways to annotate. Below are some of the most common markings.YELLOW HIGHLIGHTER: This allows you to emphasize keywords/texts without interfering with the message. I prefer yellow over blue or pink etc.
PENCIL: Pencils allow you to make changes and alter your insights.
MARGINALIA: As you annotate, use images in the margins to mark key material. This can include the following marks:Asterik [ * ] – Marks new and/or big ideas. Summarize the idea in 2 – 3 words.

LOL – Mark humorous ideas.

E#1 – This is my evidence (if answering a question/supporting a point).

As you annotation, make notations. Notations can consist of the following: Highlight words and phrases and comment on the highlighted text, ask questions in the margins, comment on vocabulary that is new to you, underscore points of view that make you see the topic differently, comment on new ideas in the margins, etc. You can add comments to the text in a Word document by clicking on “Review” in the upper header and then clicking on “Add Comment”. Save your annotation as a PDF and then upload your work in the space below. In order to earn full points, I expect to see 10 – 15 notations on the article.
