Create a 20- to 25-minute Microsoft PowerPoint presentation and a manuscript of the presentation to be submitted on the earliest religions were polytheistic, and so Israel’s monotheism was a later development, showing evidence of an evolution-like progression in the development of religion. This presentation will address specific challenges to the Bible and provide a biblically-grounded defense designed to equip a college student. The apologetic enterprise is engaged with affirming and defending the truthfulness of God’s word among various audiences and contexts, including:
Those who are consciously seeking to disprove the Bible and dismantle the reasons why the Bible should be seen as accurately representing the truth.
Those who don’t see the Bible as true because that is what they have learned and have not given it much thought.
Those who would generally affirm much of the Bible but see various parts as unhistorical.
Those who believe in the Bible and haven’t interacted with the arguments of type 1.
This presentation is focusing on number 4—to equip those within the church to be fortified in their understanding of the Scriptures. This requires you to:
Faithfully represent opposing arguments. In your work, there should be no straw men; would those who present the opposing arguments recognize your summary and acknowledge that you fairly represent the issues? Do you also adequately equip the saints so they are not pushed off-balance by hearing what sound like compelling arguments. We don’t want the saints to be thinking something like, “Well, I believe the Bible even if it doesn’t agree with the ‘facts’ or ‘research.’”
Synthesize the issues and responses.
Clearly and succinctly convey the issues with clear expression and vivid visual engagement. Your slide deck should be more than summary statements. Get creative—use images, timelines, comparison tables, infographics, etc.
Disciple the saints. We want to be strengthened in our confidence in God’s word and stirred in our worship of this great God.
